Bodiam Castle is surrounded by a moat

A fairytale castle set in the East Sussex countryside, Bodiam is a truly historic attraction that draws thousands of visitors from around the world and has been featured in everything from Monty Python and the Holy Grail to an Enya video!

Visitors can tour the traditional moat and drawbridge castle, peer through slit windows, discover nooks and crannies and explore the ancient wishing well.  Children can try on knights' armour and learn more about the castle in its own museum which features several fascinating models and displays.

The castle's unique position offers stunning views across the historically significant countryside and is the perfect spot for a midsummer picnic.

In 2006, the National Trust invested heavily in a state-of-the-art audiovisual experience which features everything from a CGI reconstruction of the castle's 14th century interior to full scale battle scenes.  There's also a new audio experience in the Second World War pill box that lies adjacent to the castle where visitors can hear the voice of a British soldier and relive the tension of that extraordinary chapter in the country's history.
