1066 Battle Re-enactment

The Match - King Harold V William of Normandy at the Battle of Hastings

Norman soldiers dressed in chainmail, preparing for battle

When Saxon King Harold and William, Duke of Normandy, led their troops into battle for the crown of England, the year of 1066 became one of the most important dates in English history.

Centuries later, visitors to Battle Abbey will be able to witness the atmosphere and tension of conflict once again as the two great adversaries with some 200 troops, clash in the annual re-enactment of the Battle of Hastings - on the very battlefield where it took place.

From 11am to 4pm each day during the weekend of Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 October, visitors can immerse themselves in the atmosphere of Norman life by wandering through an authentic market and enjoy living history demonstrations including chain mail and weaponry production and medieval falconry.  Before the main battle scheduled for 3pm each afternoon, there will be Norman Cavalry displays, have-a-go archery, childrens mock battle and an entertaining look at the Bayeux Tapestry on a washing line!

Admission prices for the Battle of Hastings event are £9 for adults, £7.20 for concessions and £4.50 for children.
A family ticket is also available at £22.50.
Reduced entrance prices for English Heritage members are £2.50 for adults, £2 for concessions and £1.20 for children, or a family ticket for £6.20.
