The Opening Ceremony

Spectators watching the raising of the Gonfalon on the West Hill

The ceremonial raising of the Gonfalon, the flag of William the Conqueror.

This sees the raising of the gonfalon - the flag of William the Conqueror.  Expect a colourful scene of Standard Bearers, services and Youth Groups.

Saturday 11 October - 9.30am at the Town Hall, followed by a procession to the castle for the raising of the Gonfalon.

The Town Crier will introduce the Mayor who will formally open the week of festivities and the flag will be raised.  A small party will then march to Hastings Castle to raise the gonfalon in a special ceremony.
