Hastings Day - 14 October
October 14 was the day in 1066 when King Harold lost the Battle of Hastings. William Duke of Normandy, who was using Hastings as his premier port, then claimed the crown and changed the way England was governed forever.
In 1966 the 900th anniversary was celebrated and it was such a success that Hastings Borough Council decided to celebrate the 14th October each year as Hastings Day.

For a time it was just a day of activities but it's grown over the years to become a whole week of art, music, sport, exhibitions and discussions that's now known as Hastings Week!
